Jetstar Joins Melbourne Sydney Route

During October, Qantas budget offshoot Jetstar has finally dipped its toes into the busiest domestic route within Australia – Sydney to Melbourne.

Jetstar Melbourne Sydney flights will fly between Sydney Airport and Melbourne Airport five times daily return on the familiar Airbus A320 that Australians have become so familiar within in recent times. While this is the first time that Jetstar have serviced Melbourne Airport, they have been flying into Avalon Airport approximately 5Km south of Melbourne Airport four times daily return for quite some time.

A statement from Jetstar notes that “the inaugural services have been well supported by the Australian travelling publish with all flightsoperating on Jetstar’s new route today completely sold-out”.

Bruce Buchanan, Jetstar chief executive said the new Sydney Melbourne flights would add to the Qantas Group’s existing high-frequency full service CityFlyer offering on the route.

The additional service from Jetstar on the busiest flight path between Australia’s two largest cities is going to be welcomed by those looking for cheap Melbourne Sydney flights as the new services will drive competition and price wars over an already competitive market place.
